Producer Ekta Kapoor has issued a strong clarification following reports that her formerly associated Over-The-Top (OTT) platform, ALTT (formerly ALTBalaji), has been banned by the Indian government for streaming "obscene and vulgar content." In a statement released by her production house, Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, explicitly distanced themselves from ALTT, asserting they ceased all association with the company in June 2021.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting recently moved to block 25 OTT platforms, including ALTT, Ullu, Desiflix, and MoodX, citing concerns over sexually explicit and pornographic content. Officials stated that much of the material on these platforms lacked meaningful narratives, focusing instead on vulgar imagery and explicit acts. These actions underscore a broader government crackdown on digital content deemed to violate Indian laws, including the IT Act.

Ekta Kapoor's statement, titled "To whomsoever it may concern," emphasized that Balaji Telefilms Limited, her primary venture, remains fully compliant with all applicable laws and upholds the highest standards of corporate governance. The statement highlighted that following an amalgamation approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), ALTT has operated independently since June 20, 2025.

"Media reports have been in circulation about ALTT being disabled by the authorities," the statement read. "However, contrary to such reports, Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT, and they had stepped down from their association way back in June 2021. Any insinuation contrary to the above facts is strongly denied, and the media is requested to report accurate facts."

This development comes as authorities intensify efforts to regulate digital streaming, addressing numerous public complaints and concerns from various bodies regarding objectionable content. The banned platforms were found to feature content described as pornographic in nature, with inappropriate depictions of nudity and sexual content, triggering multiple violations of Indian statutes.
